01 ORION Core Vision (AURA)

1. Purpose

Defines the core identity, mission, and philosophical foundation of the ORION project. This is the guiding compass for all subsequent architectural decisions.

2. Scope

Included: The high-level vision, absolute engineering principles, and ethical boundaries of ORION. Excluded: Technical implementation details and specific software choices (defined in NEXUS).

3. Major Components

• Mission & Vision: The long-term objectives.
• Core Principles: Immutable engineering laws (e.g., "Build the nervous system first").
• Scope Boundaries: What ORION will never be built to do.

4. Architecture

This module is conceptual. It acts as the foundational layer upon which the other 11 modules are stacked.

5. Responsibilities

Ensure that every engineer, researcher, and operator understands why a system is being built before they write code.

6. Relationships with other ORION parts

AURA dictates the constraints for all other modules. For example, the security constraints in VEIL and the AI constraints in SENTIENCE are derived directly from the principles in AURA.

7. Future Roadmap

The vision remains static, but terminology and stakeholder definitions will evolve as the system scales from Phase 1 (Local) to Phase 6 (Planetary).

8. Trade-offs

Adhering to strict principles (like Zero Trust) naturally increases initial development friction and latency. AURA accepts this trade-off in exchange for absolute resilience.

9. Risks

Scope creep. If the principles in AURA are ignored, ORION will devolve into an unmaintainable monolith rather than a resilient mesh.
